INTERPOL GENERAL ASSEMBLY: FIDU RECALLS THE NEED FOR REFORM

22 novembre 2021

The 89th INTERPOL General Assembly will begin tomorrow in Istanbul and will bring together chiefs of police and senior officials from around the world to address global security issues. The Italian Federation for Human Rights reiterates its concern about the ongoing abuse of the INTERPOL mechanisms by authoritarian regimes and reaffirms the importance of full implementation of recommendations put forward by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and the European Parliament, as stated in the Civil Society Resolution signed by 64 human rights organisations and prominent civil society leaders. This General Assembly should be the opportunity for all democratic countries to prevent INTERPOL from being an instrument of autocratic leaders to persecute activists, journalists and political opponents abroad.
