In a new case-making by MOIS (Ministry of Intelligence and Security), the regime’s Judiciary in Khuzestan Province has indicted political prisoner Merhan Qarehbaghi with new charges including “corruption on earth”, “propagating against the state” and “membership in People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK)”, on December 21, 2021.
These new charges dubbed as the ultimate decision have been issued by Taheri Nasab, the interrogator of branch 3 of Behbahan Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor Office.
Mehran Qarehbaghi was detained on January 18, 2020 by IRGC Intelligence agents in Behbahan. In his former case, he was charged by the Revolutionary Court with “insulting Khamenei” and “propagating against the state”. He was sentenced to three years in prison, two years of it applicable. On April 25, 2021, he was tried on charges of “propagating against the state”, “membership in PMOI”, “participation in the destruction and arsenal”, “disrupting public order”, “participation in making incinerating material” and “corruption on earth”. The MOIS has urged his family to put pressure on him to repent and cooperate against PMOI.
Without any former notice, Mr. Qarebaghi was transferred on December 25, 2021 from Behbahan Prison to Ahvaz Shaiban Prison. This transfer, following inadequate attributed allegations to him, such as “corruption on earth”, has risen deep concern about the faith of this political prisoner.
Mr. Qarehbaghi is suffering from problems in his heart valve due to tortures, being in a state of limbo and other pressures imposed on him.
The Italian Federation for Human Rights strongly condemns the arbitrary detention and execution order against political prisoner Mehran Qarehbaghi. We call on UNHRC, Mrs. Michelle Bachelet, and UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights Iran, Javid Rehman to immediately intervene to halt the arbitrary execution sentence and to seek the release of this political prisoner, who is also in need of urgent medical care.
