Eleonora Mongelli

She began campaigning for the defence and promotion of human and civil rights by denouncing the oppression of minorities, such as Tibetans and Uighurs, and then focused her activities on the advocacy work, with particular reference to the fight against discrimination and to the strengthening of the human rights instruments at both national and international institutions, as well as at the UN. She has conducted monitoring and inspections on detention conditions and treatment of prisoners in several Italian prisons and judicial psychiatric hospitals. She has been working in favour of the universal abolition of the death penalty for ten years through the organization of events and the management of international projects. She has worked with the French NGO Ensemble contre la Peine de Mort and the World Coalition against the Death Penalty as a member of the organizing team of the VI World Congress against the Death Penalty. Most recently, she was member of the Hands off Cain delegation for the advocacy mission, held in Africa in November 2016 and sponsored by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in support of the resolution for a moratorium on executions at the UN General Assembly and she was also Executive Board member of LIDU – Italian League for Human Rights.
