Eleonora Mongelli

Human rights advocate. She works for the protection of the victims of political persecution worldwide. She began campaigning for the defence and promotion of human rights and the rule of law by denouncing the oppression of the ethnic minorities and then focused her activities on the advocacy work, in particular aimed at strengthening the human rights instruments at both national and international institutions. She has been working in favour of the universal abolition of the death penalty since 2007 through the organization of events and the implementation of international projects. She has worked with the French NGO Ensemble contre la Peine de Mort and the World Coalition against the Death Penalty as a member of the team in charge of the organisation of the VI World Congress against the Death Penalty, held in Oslo in June 2016. She has conducted many fact-finding missions in different countries, mostly in Africa and Eastern Europe. She has extensive experience in advocacy on protection of civil liberties and political rights, on disinformation and propaganda, as well as on corporate accountability for human rights. She also authored numerous articles that have appeared in national and international newspapers and magazines. She is the author of the podcast Made in Slavery on the Chinese government’s violent repression of Uyghur people. She is a member of the Steering Committee of CURE, the international initiative of leading civil society organisations from across the European continent aimed at strengthen the Council of Europe and its work in the field of human rights, democracy and the rule of law.
